Eco friendly fabrics

Going Eco-friendly is one of the best ways to save the environment and protect our planet earth.  Eco-friendly Fabric is ruling the Fabric market and it has been predicted that the demand for Eco-friendly fabrics is expected to increase in the near future. With the people becoming more aware and concerned, Eco-friendly Fabrics would surely find their way.

Market competition in supplying eco-friendly fabric has considerably increased so it is very important to understand why type of Fabric is truly eco-friendly? Most of the manufacturers are supplying their garments with a label of eco-friendly, but it is hard to determine which fabric is good and which one is bad for the environment.

Let us start with Organic cotton.

Organic cotton as most of us are aware of is grown following organic practices that are free from pesticides or any kind of harmful fertilizer. This type of cotton farming process not only produces chemical free cotton but also gives the worker a healthier work environment. But if a manufacturer is mentioning organic cotton on the Fabric, then you can’t be sure if the product is completely eco-friendly or not. If the fabric is dyed in eco-friendly ink, then make sure low impact dye is used that does less harm to the environment. One should rather prefer organic cotton shades such as cream and light brown.

The second comes Bamboo.

Bamboo is the rising star of eco-friendly fabric family. This is perfect for fabrics and for the surfaces as well. Bamboo has more impacts of grass than and grows at a faster rate. The best part of using this fabric is that Bamboo regenerates itself after it is cut.

Bamboo is an extremely resilient and durable fibre.  At the same time it can feel beautifully soft and pleasant to the touch.  When compared in studies to cotton and polyester, it has been found to be stronger, have better moisture wicking properties and better moisture absorption than the more commonplace Western materials.  When bamboo fabric is used in clothing it is:

• Supremely soft, silky and luxurious to the touch – Envelop yourself in truly unparalleled comfort.
• Hypoallergenic – The eco-friendly bamboo fibres do not irritate the skin. Gentler than many manmade fibres, bamboo is a natural solution for those with sensitive skin.
• Breathable and thermo-regulating – Stay comfortable whatever the weather; keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.
• More absorbent than cotton – Helps to wick moisture away from the skin.
• UV protective – Protect you and your loved ones from the sun’s rays in comfort.
• Biodegradable – A greener material that will simply return to the Earth.

The third option is Wool.

Wool is a renewable source so can be easily retrieved. Most of us must be aware of the fact that wool comes from sheep but considered as an eco-friendly product provided sheep are undergone through various inhuman stages. Considering Wool as a part f eco-friendly team is highly unethical.

The fourth eco-friendly fabric is 100% Linen.

Original or we say 100% pure linen is eco-friendly since it is made from flax, that doesn’t need any pesticides while farming.  Just like organic cotton, pure linen is good for the wearer and the environment. Its natural shade or those dyed causing low impact are preferable.

The fifth fabric that is considered best is Hemp.

No pesticides, herbicides, irrigational practices harm wearer or the environment in one or the other way. Hemp has additional benefits of protecting the soil where it is grown. Hemp is not well-organized so may or may not be, a little chemicalis added while growing.

Last but not the least comes Recycled polyester.

This is one of the popular forms of eco-friendly fabric that is increasingly in demand. Basically, recycled Polyester is obtained from the recycling of used clothes after going through various processes in order to produce a new fabric material.

This shift of people to eco-friendly fabric is one of the perfect ways to wear safe clothes in addition to offering protection to the planet.
